While I was at empeg, I wrote the original server software for the Rio Receiver. It has, shall we say, certain limitations. Some of them were down to the way marketing wanted it to work, and some of them are squarely my fault.

First, you’ll need to install a stock NFS server. On Debian, that’s as simple as apt-get install nfs-user-server.

Inspired by the stirling effort that David Schuetz has put into deciphering the layout definitions for the Rio Receiver (see here), I’ve decided to expand on his work.

Since the Audio Receiver Manager (the server) uses HTTP to stream the MP3 data to the Rio Receiver, it’s possible (with some work) to stream directly to Winamp. Here’s how.
